Litigation Officer
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent shall act as a focal person for litigation management within the assigned jurisdiction and shall be responsible for safeguarding the legal interests of KPEZDMC before all Courts, Tribunals, and quasi-judicial forums. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure regular attendance before the assigned Courts and maintain effective liaison with Court officials, panel counsel, and other administrative offices at Courts.
- Monitor all assigned litigation, including daily cause lists, hearing schedules, case progress, and compliance requirements, and promptly report significant developments to the Head of the Company’s Legal Department.
- Coordinate with panel counsel to ensure timely preparation, filing, and prosecution of pleadings, applications, replies, affidavits, wakalatnamas, written statements, appeals, and other legal documents.
- Obtain and promptly communicate copies of court orders, judgments, notices, summons, and hearing schedules to the Company’s Legal Department and concerned offices, and ensure timely implementation of judicial directions.
- Coordinate with the Company’s Head Office and Zone Offices, government departments, and other stakeholders to obtain records, comments, evidence, affidavits, and other documents required for effective conduct of litigation.
- Ensure timely attendance of panel counsel, departmental representatives, witnesses, and KPEZDMC officials before Courts whenever required, and immediately report any lapse, negligence, or non-compliance affecting litigation.
- Maintain complete and up-to-date litigation records, including physical and electronic case files, and regularly update the Litigation Management System (LMS) or any other case management mechanism prescribed by KPEZDMC.
- Process litigation-related administrative matters, including engagement of counsel, execution of wakalatnamas, verification and processing of legal fee bills, and other case-related documentation in accordance with applicable rules and procedures.
- Maintain a litigation compliance calendar and proactively monitor compliance with all court directions, ensuring that no judicial timelines or statutory requirements are missed.
- Submit periodic litigation status reports highlighting pending cases, upcoming hearings, compliance status, legal risks, and matters requiring immediate attention by the Head of the Company’s Legal Department.
- Immediately report any adverse order, ex parte proceedings, contempt risk, limitation issue, negligence by counsel, or any matter likely to prejudice KPEZDMC’s legal interests, together with recommendations for remedial action.
- Perform any other litigation, legal coordination, or Court-related assignment entrusted by the Head of the Company’s Legal Department or the Competent Authority from time to time.
Accountability
The incumbent shall be responsible for ensuring effective coordination, monitoring, and timely management of all litigation assigned to their jurisdiction and shall exercise due diligence to protect the legal interests of KPEZDMC through proactive case management, timely reporting, and strict compliance with judicial directions.
Job Requirements
Qualification
- Must possess at least a degree (equivalent to 16 years of education) in Law, or an LLB/LLB (Hons), from an accredited law school or institution.
Professional Registration
- Must be duly enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court with a Bar Council recognized under the laws of Pakistan.
Experience
- Must have at least six (06) years of relevant experience since the date of enrollment as an Advocate of the Lower Court.
- Proven experience in corporate, industrial, and labour laws.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to positively interact with all stakeholders.
- Strong report-writing and proposal-writing skills.
- Well-developed computer skills in the use of MS Word and MS Office.
